What would you like to know? Something brought you to this page, this blog. I can’t tell you everything about me. Some of that I haven’t figured out for myself. However…

I am a writer. I write because I love to read. In fact, I’m a book junkie. I need to read. I want to climb in books and live there. I want to meet the characters, walk in their shoes, fight their battles, fall in love with their heroes…  Oh, I do go on, don’t I? Anyway, what passionate reader doesn’t dream about being a writer?  Ah, perhaps that’s just me. Does that mean I’m living the dream? Well, maybe. I’m sure every writer’s dream is to end up a best seller or at least modestly profitable. Nevertheless, an aspiring author knows this is a marathon not a sprint.

What do I write about?  I have published five books in a series on Amazon. The novels are set in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where I lived for 25 years. They are stories about ordinary people with families, people who fall in love and sometimes find themselves in outrageous circumstances.  Add some suspense, humor, family dynamics and good conversation and voila! Please visit my Author Page  or see The Bucks County Novels page for a synopsis of each of the titles. My debut novel: Three Empty Frames won first prize in The Writer’s Digest E-book Awards for Mainstream Fiction. I have a stand alone historical novel in the works, which I hope to have completed and  ready for publication in 2020. My poem “Just Burn” has been published in Diverse Verse, A Poetry Collection and my short story “Dissolved” has been published in Pennsylvania’s Emerging Writers 2018.

On my blog, I share my short stories, research and some of the lessons I’ve learned on writing and editing –including errors and blunders– and the things that move and inspire me. You will also find my poetry, art and photography –my other grand passions. I love the idea of connecting with other creative people who are trying to live their dreams, as well. Honest feedback is always welcome, just promise to be respectful and courteous. And above all else, know that I am very happy to meet you!

  6. Ah…I know how difficult it is to juggle a day job and writing. Thank you Meg for the inspiration. I tend to get into a lazy mode often, but now I shall keep you as a idol in mind.   14. I was drawn to the title of ‘Who am I’ – such a complex question for me to answer as I’m still trying to discover who I am. It sounds as though already know?! Such a positive post and I admire that you have achieved so much already as a writer whilst holding down a day job!

    1. Greetings! I just visited your blog and I think our tastes are similar. I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts, Linda Howard, Victoria Holt, Jayne Ann Krentz…..you get the idea. I would love for you to peruse my blog and check out my short stories – most of which are in the romance genre. I’ve written and published 2 novels, have a third nearly ready for publication and a fourth as a rough draft. Let me know what you think!

  44. Hi Meg!

    I’m just dropping by with a quick question or several… Your books are also available in paperback (via CreateSpace I think) as well as ebook format. Would you recommend other self-published authors such as myself branching out into paperback? It’s a bit of a cheeky question, but has it been worthwhile in your experience?

    I realise a lot of people don’t have Kindle and I’ve been considering other ebook formats. My concern with CreateSpace is that people looking for paperbacks will choose traditionally-published authors and overlook little self-published me!

    Have you done a post on paperback self-publishing? I’ll have a look for it now. Have you considered starting a “Dear Meg” column?

    1. Hi J! I have sold exactly 2 paperback versions of my books on Amazon! I do however have a plan which I have not yet enacted. Small independent bookstores are often willing to take supplies of your books on consignment. It does mean upfront cost to you for ordering a case of books to resell. As far as getting them into bigger chain retailers like… well whoever you have in the UK, i haven’t figured that part out yet. Everything I have read about it says to do a paperback, too. There is still a big market for them. Alternatively there are boutique publishers that may be able to print and market your book for you. Again, that will involve upfront costs to you and you will need to make sure that they can list the paperback on Amazon alongside your e-book. Have you published on Smashwords? They will take you into Nook and Apple’s iBooks. That was one of the reasons I redid the cover for Three Empty Frames – they need a high resolution image for their premium catalog. So far no sales there, but it’s only been live for 2 days. Updates to follow!       1. Excellent answer! I keep encountering references to Smashwords so I think I’ll use it. Today I removed some of my ebooks from the Kindle Select plan with that in mind (but won’t be able to publish them as ebooks elsewhere until the Select period expires). I’m wary of anything which involves upfront costs, but it may be something I explore in the future. Thanks for the reply and I’ll drop you an email if I think of yet more questions!
