Moving forward….

It amazes me to think I’ve been blogging for the better part of four years. I started this blog in 2014 but didn’t really start posting regularly until August of 2015. And when I look back I think: man this blog is a mess. Rather than have a fixed format, I have managed to post about everything under the sun (except religion and politics – which will stay that way). But this was supposed to be a WRITING BLOG!!! Ehhh… I am too interested in too many things to focus. Luckily, you beautiful people haven’t seemed to mind. I finish 2018 with over 3300 followers and a nice group of regular commenters and friends. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

So what is the plan for the easily distracted author/artist in 2019? Is there a plan? Can I even stick to a plan with all the big changes next year will bring? Probably not. However, what I’d like to do is….

  • Concentrate on my series Inhuman. I would like to turn this rough draft into a novel. For those of you reading along, please offer constructive criticism, including flagging me on inconsistencies and mistakes. Be truthful. I can take it and your feedback is very valuable.
  • As a result, I will probably write fewer essays on The Great War. I am still reading and researching for the very delayed (I should be ashamed of myself) Here Lies a Soldier so I will share some of the gems I uncover.
  • Poetry: it seems to have returned to me so that might appear more often.
  • Art: I will ‘Draw Adventurously’ again but maybe not so frequently. Also, I’ve been painting a lot more and just ordered new brushes and a supply of canvases so I may subject you to that in the new year.

Ah, but the best laid plans (if you can call that a plan) of mice and Meg often go awry. 2019 brings big changes personally and a big move geographically. I’m not making any promises. However, if you hang in there with me during this tumultuous time, I’ll be eternally grateful!

All the best to you and yours at the conclusion of the year! Love Meg!

Also that’s my latest painting in the header image.

  1. Variety, as “they” say, is the spice of life! And I’ve enjoyed the condiments you’ve provided along the way! I hope 2019 finds you and yours healthy and happy, with a smooth move under your belts, so you can concentrate on all of the goals you’ve set for yourself. (I understand cocktails can go a long way to assist in such adventures!) Take care, Meg. We look forward to more of your writing and artwork.

    1. Thanks so much, Linda! I hope your 2019 brings good things to you and yours as well. You’re right about the cocktails – maybe I should have returned to ‘drinking adventurously’ this year!

  2. I’ll be hanging on with you Meg. I know what you mean annoy a random blog, the problem comes when you need to organise it as I found last year. Hence my blog split headache lol.
Happy new year to you 😀

  3. Good plans Meg, but we really do like all your posts. In my case, I had a blog that I never used till 2018. Didn’t think I would have enough writing info each week so I posted other things. 2019 will focus on writing only as there are a million things to discuss as I now realize. Inhumans is pretty good. Will continue to give feedback to help make it better. Have a great rest of the week!

    1. Thank you Darnell! I’ve been writing by the seat of my pants, not my usual technique. But if I can put the story down, rough as it might be, then I’ll have a good foundation for revision! Appreciate your support and feedback! And look forward to your writing in the new year, too!

  4. I don’t think there are many blogs that are NOT a mess Meg. Whether that is a reflection of a messy mind, a too busy life, or some sinister alien influence, perhaps coloured orange, I do not know. To be honest I do not care. So long as we all enjoy creating, reading, commenting, admiring, laughing, and even crying, then that is fine by me.

Whether reading, or writing, creating some art
whilst blogging we all are playing our part
If just for ourselves and no-one else reads
we are simply just adding to life’s basic needs!

  5. When I started my blog I originally planned for it to be another site about DVDs (As if the world needs another movie site). So, with your help, I changed the site to what it is now. A bit of this, and a bit of that -Abitsa. A writer creates in so many ways. They might do a painting that might inspire them to do a series. Some poetry might inspire them to do some flash fiction or visa versa.

You’re showing us what it means to be Meg Sorick, author, writer, human being. Nobody has a life that is exactly as they want it. Why should a blog be any different? A blog is simply an extension of the person. I enjoy seeing all the different facets of Meg and seeing what makes her tick. I like the blog as it is. Right now you’re juggling a lot of balls. Don’t drop the ball called “blog” to give it a shiny new coat of paint. The ball looks just fine.

    1. Thanks so much, Tom. I’m glad you enjoy it! I’m finding it hard to focus on the writing at the moment. Having committed a story to the blog gives me at least a little bit of self imposed discipline. And the art is actually very soothing as a distraction. I totally understand why hospitals/homes for the mentally ill have art programs. It really works!

During the weeks of the impending move, I might just post photography so as to keep in contact with everyone. We’ll see. But I won’t be abandoning the blog any time soon!
