Oh, how I struggled with this one. The sky is so much easier to paint. I drew and discarded three versions. Finally I went through my sketchbooks and found this older drawing. Staring up at the sky as if you were laying in tall grass:
I bet it is tough to convey sky in a sketch. Did a pretty dang good job with this one though. 😃

It sure is; they all looked cartoonish. Which I suppose isn’t a bad thing. Anyway, thanks! 😃

It’s diffuse and cool. Why did you choose to have 3 birds?

Thank you. I drew three because it made it clearer that they were circling. This sketch originally accompanied a (rather morbid) poem about a corpse decomposing.

Ok on the three. It suggests a closed circle perhaps something ironic.

Three crows or ravens, are often shown as harbingers of doom or death, because of their color, their cry, and thar they eat carrion. Plenty of symbolism associated with three. The viewer may interpret for themselves. 🧐

Meg this is really a different take on the sky theme! It was amusing to read about your attempts because I had thd same experience. It is really very difficult to draw a black n white sky. I still haven’t finished it and i have to do it soon as i am already late!
