I loved the theme of Cee’s Black and White Challenge this week: murals, but I didn’t have any photos I could use. A shame really… Philadelphia is a city full of murals –they even have an official mural arts program. Unfortunately I neither had any archived shots of Philly murals, nor did I have time to go on a photo expedition into the city.
And so I go off the script for my photography this week. These are from Naples, Italy. A beautiful and dangerous place with Mount Vesuvius in the background:
Nice diversion! Naples is on our list the next time we’re in Italy. 😃👍🏻

Truly the draw was to see Pompeii, right down the road. Naples is a little shady! Hold on to your wallet!

Really? Maybe it’ll be Venice then. 😏

Now, that’s on my bucket list, too!

Though, I’ve heard it’s a little sketchy there too. 😏

So is Rome. Lots of pickpockets. I heard that one of their methods is to carry scalpels and slice open the bottom of purses and backpacks and let the contents fall into a bag they hold below!

Hahaha! Sneaky bastards. Fact is, no matter where you go, if you look like a tourist, you’re a target. I actually a bit unsure walking around Amsterdam at night. You don’t know the language, the turf. It’s easy to get taken advantage of. The boys are psyched about Rome. That is gonna happen next trip, regardless. 😃

Oh yeah! You have to see it – all that history.
I nearly got robbed at the train station in Paris – H went to change money and left me to guard the luggage. A young man came up and tapped me on the shoulder so I would look away while his partner picked up one of our bags. Fortunately I heard the rustle and I turned and yelled at him and he dropped it and they both ran. Close call!

Thanks so much! Black and white photography does have a completely different feel. So much mood and atmosphere.

Great pictures! I lived in Naples one summer many years ago when my brother in law was stationed there. They lived off base and while it seemed quite safe it was still a cesspool of disease. Cholera broke out and we all, Americans and Italians alike, had to go to a makeshift Navy clinic and get inoculated. I remember saying to my sister, oh, look at that cat that got run over, and when we got closer it was the biggest rat I’d ever seen! Not the cleanest port! They lived near Pozzuoli, Sophia Loren’s hometown, I believe.

Oh wow! Cholera! 😱 We didn’t spend much time there … just a quick stop before going to Pompeii. Italy is kinda crazy in general, but I love it!
