How does it taste?

It was delicious! Not the fondant, mind you, that’s a little much. But beneath, the cake was excellent. 🙂

I wonder where the expression came from. Cake is not easy!

No, that’s a good point. Maybe ‘it’s a piece of cake’ refers to the fact that cake is easy to eat!

I’d rather have that cake than any real ‘blue box’ gift. Those aren’t nearly as delicious…

It was a good cake, too, not just pretty!

I’m not sure I’ve ever had bad cake. Mediocre, maybe… but is bad cake even a thing? Ha 😃

Fruit cake is pretty bad. But that’s the only one I can think of!

The idea of cake being “easy” originated in the 1870’s when cakes were given out as prizes for winning competitions. In particular, there was a tradition in the US slavery states where slaves would circle around a cake at a gathering. … “Her picture’s in the papers now, And life’s a piece of cake.”

Thank you for that, Peter! Very interesting. I love finding out the origins of our expressions. Some of them are really ancient in origin.

Sometimes cakes are designed so well you feel guilty cutting into them. Nah. Who am I kidding? I’ll carve ’em all to get to their goodness inside. Indeed, who doesn’t like cake…fruitcakes being the notable exception. I actually had a piece of a fruitcake a few years ago that was just made and it wasn’t horrible. That being said I haven’t had any since so how good could it have been?!
