Have you read Lolita… Humbert Humbert drives a Melmoth which is the name Oscar used in exile, Sebastian Melmoth. His uncle Robert Maturin wrote a gothic novel called Melmoth the Wanderer which was about a man who sold his soul to the devil and had to roam the earth to find salvation.
