Glad you are having good weather. Yes, very hot here-Londoners are not coping that well but they will survive. 😉

This is in County Clare. At the ruins of of a church at Dysert O’Dea castle. I thought it was pretty cool, too!

Thank you! The weird thing? There was a funeral going on in this ancient churchyard! New grave in an 800 year old cemetery!

That is awesome. I want to be buried in a place like that. Wow, I am oddly morbid!

They had beer with them! The Irish really do know how to throw a funeral! I kinda want a funeral pyre… 😱🔥

I love Norman arches, and the fact that they have lasted so well with no mortar at all in some cases. And we think we have skills!

Yes! Incredible craftsmanship to last all these centuries.

lovely door..quite unique too! I love the faces on the arch!

Isn’t it, though? The faces are often a feature of Gothic/Norman architecture, I think!

I don’t have much idea about Gothic architecture, we do have few buildings that were built during British colonial rule here in Jaipur but the British engineer who actually built it was heavily inspired by local architecture. So all these buildings built by him are in fusion style. we don’t have an old church here built in Gothic style but it’s much simpler! 🙂

I think staying true to the culture is a good thing. A Norman church in Jaipur would be an oddity!

Exactly, local sensibilities are important. All architectural styles developed as a response to local climate and requirements! A glass building in sunny India is a architectural disaster!
